Hypnosis & Mindfulness for Migraines

Updated: Sep 11, 2021

Emotional stress can affect your migraines or headaches.

For many people, emotional stress can increase the likelihood of migraines and tension headaches. Not only that but if you suffer from migraines let me assure you that it's extremely likely that you have experienced emotionally stressful events in your life (i.e. breakups, divorce, deaths, etc.). It has been estimated that up to 70% of people with severe migraines are affected by mood disorders such as depression. You don't have to when you learn to manage stress through our powerful self-hypnosis and mindfulness techniques.

A common misconception is that migraines or tension headaches are solely a physical or neurological problem. A combination of physical, emotional, and psychological triggers can activate your headache trigger points.

When you're stressed, you may experience more pain.

One of the most common reasons we feel constant pain is due to the excessive tension that’s built up over time. This tension can result in a lot of different symptoms, like muscle aches and joint pains. The solution to this problem is deceptively simple: relax your body. This is not a simple task for most people, typically because they’re not sure where to start. Since there are countless muscles in the body, you may be wondering where to start or how to relax them all effectively.

Stress is a major contributor to suffering from migraines and headaches. Research has shown that there is a direct relationship between stress and pain. ... Not only does it impact the way you think but will also impact the way you feel. When you're stressed, your mind can become so busy that you begin to notice a 'spiked' feeling in your body

Your migraines may be affected by physical and emotional well-being.

Migraine sufferers often find that there is a correlation between their migraines and their psychological health. Keeping a diary of your migraine attacks, the circumstances leading up to these attacks and your overall frame of mind during or before the migraine can help you to discover what triggers to avoid. A diary could also provide valuable insight into how your physical health could be influencing your emotional well-being. In cases of chronic migraines, it's common for patients to be prescribed antidepressants or anti-anxiety medication. Some coping mechanisms which are worth considering include hypnosis, counseling, massage therapy, and yoga. Drawing on these resources for emotional support will undoubtedly have a positive impact on how often you suffer from migraine attacks.

Are you suffering from migraines? There are a number of alternatives to the conventional approaches.

I have used hypnotherapy for many years in my practice and as a complementary approach to medical treatments. I have helped many people suffering from chronic headaches, particularly migraines, using this approach.

Migraines are a very real and debilitating problem for many people. The conventional approaches to managing the situation involve using medication. However, some people are sensitive to the harsh chemicals used in these medications. As well as the fact that these medications can cause a severe rebound effect when they start to wear off. Aside from that, they don’t always offer an effective solution.

This brings us to hypnotherapy and mindfulness as effective alternatives for managing migraine pain. Now, I know what you’re thinking: “Isn’t hypnotherapy just quackery? The stuff of stage hypnotists?”

Well no, hypnosis and by virtue hypnotherapy, can be incredibly helpful in rewiring the thinking patterns that lead to emotional stress, By learning how to intercept the thinking which translates into negative physiological symptoms we can train the brain to reduce the stress hormones and liberate the healing blood chemistry necessary for reducing migraine and headache symptoms, or at the very least to dramatically reduce the frequency.
